Hello everyone, and welcome to Mingli Elementary School in Changhua County!
We recently held an exciting and fun-filled English vocabulary challenge game that combined technology with learning!
This engaging event utilized the interactive platform Wordwall, with students using tablets to participate. This approach allowed children to learn English through play, build confidence through challenges, and make learning more motivating and enjoyable.
Level 1: Picture Multiple Choice
In the first level, a picture appeared on the screen, followed by four English words. Children had to select the correct word that matched the image.
While seemingly simple, this level truly tested the children's observation skills and reaction time!
For example, if they saw a picture of a dog, they had to choose the correct answer from "cat," "dog," "pig," and "bird."
The moment they answered correctly, the screen provided immediate encouragement and animated feedback, giving the children a great sense of accomplishment!
This level helped children connect English vocabulary with real-life situations, serving as a fundamental and crucial literacy exercise.
Level 2: Picture Matching
This level was a dynamic "image matching game"!
Children had to correctly match words to their corresponding pictures.
From "apple" and "chair" to "umbrella" and "schoolbag," each connection involved vocabulary commonly found in the children's daily lives.
They were incredibly focused, observing the pictures and quickly searching for the corresponding English words in their minds, their fingers actively operating the tablets.
This level specifically trained the children's visual memory and word-matching abilities. Unlike the multiple-choice format, children had to genuinely understand the meaning of the words and their relationship to the pictures to make correct matches.
Level 3: Vocabulary Spelling Challenge
We then moved to the most exciting level! Children had to listen to the English pronunciation and then manually type out the complete spelling of the word.
This was not only a challenge to their memory but also a practical exercise in spelling skills.
Without any options or hints, children had to rely on their own experience and repeated practice to correctly spell every letter.
Some children's eyes lit up after successfully spelling a word, while others quietly and meticulously entered one letter at a time. This focus and effort were among the most touching moments of the entire activity.
These three challenging levels were more than just a competition; they were a learning journey for the children.
By combining tablets with Wordwall, we not only improved the children's English proficiency but also enhanced their technology application skills and self-directed learning abilities.
Thanks to the thoughtful design by our foreign teacher and English teachers, even Mingli Elementary School, located in the countryside, provides learning methods and resources that are on par with urban schools!
In the embrace of nature, technology has given wings to learning, and children are steadily moving towards a confident future through laughter and challenges.
